We are just hours away from releasing our latest family productivity app Chore-inator. This is my favorite part of a new app project. After months of work designing, coding, testing, planning, tweeking and everything else that goes along with creating something from scratch it’s an awesome feeling to finally have something tangible that can not only help our family, but others families worldwide. I have to say we are really happy with the app. Kevin, I, and Adam our son love using it, and we have been getting some really good feedback. Though there are some things we want to enhance and add to the app in future releases, all in all we are very happy with the outcome and can’t wait to share it.
As exciting as it is, it’s also nerve racking which just adds to the fun of launch day!
With any launch you always have to ask yourself, what did we miss? No matter how many checklists, project plans, review meetings, re-review meetings, testing, more testing, planning, etc. almost always there will be something that comes up at the last minute or that fell through the cracks. Did we miss a major bug? Are others going to find it as useful as us? What will others want that is missing from the app? Is our website, app store description, and other marketing materials engaging? Have we done enough pre-promotion? Will our attempts for media attention go unanswered? We have yet to get major coverage for any of our apps from TUAW and I have to say this is definitely one of our goals. Will we meet this? Will Apple take notice or will it get buried in the app store amongst 1 million?
Regardless, we are as ready as can be and can’t wait for the next step, the hardest part of app development – continued marketing and promotion.
For now though, we are going to lunch!
