Setting Up Dropbox Syncing in Chore-inator
What Is Dropbox Syncing?
Dropbox is a service for syncing files among multiple devices. If you want your children to be able to use Chore-inator on their own devices, separate from yours, you will need to enable Dropbox syncing . If you plan on everyone in your family using Chore-inator on the same device, you do not need to worry about setting up Dropbox syncing.
Step 1: Make Sure You Have a Dropbox Account
If you don’t already have a Dropbox account, you will need to sign up for one at dropbox.com before going further (it’s free with 2GB of storage). Chore-inator uses app-based syncing with Dropbox, which means it only has access to its data on Dropbox and cannot see anything else in your Dropbox account. App-based syncing does require you to use the same Dropbox account with Chore-inator for each device you setup. If you use multiple Dropbox accounts among your devices, don’t worry. There is an easy way to setup Chore-inator to use the account it needs without interfering with your Dropbox setup elswhere.
Step 2: Enable Dropbox Sync
Launch Chore-inator, enter Parent Mode, and then tap the Settings button:
Slide the Sync using Dropbox setting to the right to enable Dropbox syncing (Chore-inator will show you a notice that you need to use the same Dropbox account on all your devices. Tap Ok to dismiss it):
Step 3: Sign Into Dropbox
If you do not have the Dropbox app installed on your device, you will be presented with the following login panel:
Simply enter the email address and password for the Dropbox account you wish to use for syncing Chore-inator, tap the Sign In button, and move on to the next step. If you do have the Dropbox app installed, it will launch and you will be asked whether or not you wish to allow Chore-inator to sync using the account that was used to sign in to the Dropbox app:
If the account you wish to use for syncing Chore-inator is the same one as you used to sign in to the Dropbox app (the email address of that account is shown below the Allow button), simply tap the Allow button and move on to the next step. If you wish to use a different account for syncing Chore-inator, tap Use a different account. If you tap Use a different account, you will be receive a prompt to sign in to Dropbox. Use the email address and password for the Dropbox account you wish to use for syncing Chore-inator and then tap the Sign In button:
You will then be prompted to confirm that you really want to allow Chore-inator to use this account for syncing:
Tap the Allow button to confirm.
Step 4: The First Sync
Now that you’ve setup syncing, Chore-inator will automatically sync with Dropbox for the first time. At this point Chore-inator is all setup for syncing with Dropbox. You will need to repeat this process for any other devices on which you wish to use Chore-inator.
Automatic Syncing
By default the Sync automatically option is enabled (it will appear under the Sync using Dropbox option after you’ve successfully setup syncing):
When this option is enabled, Chore-inator will sync automatically each time it is launched. It will also sync in the background immediately after you exit Chore-inator by tapping the home button on your device. You can disable this option if you wish to have complete control over when Chore-inator syncs with Dropbox by syncing manually. You can perform a manual sync by tapping the Sync button in parent mode.
